Some people add light to the world and some people take it away.
Have you ever met a person that seems to never have anything good to say, ever? That person who's face is so sour that their lips seem to be in a constant pucker? Don't you wonder what has made them so miserable that they can't even smile?
These are the people in life that just suck all the light out of a room. If we are not careful they can suck the light out of us also. They can provoke us and change our mood so we reflect back to them what they are giving out.
Matt 5:14-16 - You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Here in Matthew, Christ tells us we are to be a light to a dark world. We are to set our light up on a lampstand where everyone can see it. In other words, we are to add light to the world, even to that sour faced person that tries to put our light out.
Sometimes it may seem the impossible to do. It may seem like you are being asked to swim through shark infested waters just to let your light come through. We may feel lousy or maybe even hurt but we can still reflect light.
You see we are not the ones that make the light we are only reflections of light. It is Christ in us that is the light and when we are walking strongly in the spirit, our light will reflect Him to a dark world. Just like the moon reflects the sun at night to give light to the earth. We too must reflect the Son to a dark world.
All power must have an outlet for it to generate more power. Additional power can only be generated as power is used. It is the same with us; we must use the power that has already been given to us for more power to be given to us. If we are to become strong in the spirit and used by God, we must first use what we already have. It would do no good to give an abundance of spiritual power to someone that would go out and live in the flesh. The power would be wasted. Instead, the spirit is poured out on those that are walking in the ways of the Lord.
Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
We must fill our lamps with oil and trim the wick to be at our full lighting capacity. Oil is like the word of God; it fills us with His light and keeps our wick trimmed for the world to see Him. Without the Word of God, our light would soon go out just as the lamp does when it runs out of oil.
John 8:12 - Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
In conclusion I would say that if we are to add light to the world instead of take it away, we must follow the Master of Light Himself, Jesus Christ. We must follow, one foot, one step, one foot, one step, right behind so we don't lose our way in a dark world. It’s easy for us to lose our footing and stray but if we stay right behind Jesus we can show His light with every step that we take.

Great post as usual Sherri.
It's the people who it feels really hard to take the light to that need it the most!
We often forget that though. Thanks for the reminder
You wrote a good one here. Great word pictures.

Great post! A reminder of what we already know, feel and desire to be, do and have in order to best contribute to this world. The more we shine your light, the more that everybody around us feels and responds in kind.
Amen Sherri! This is a very good reminder of what we are to be doing. Our Pastor has been stressing on how we need to help those that are lost, not shun them. Avoidance isn't helping at all. Pray for those that are living in the dark. Good word! Thank you.
I really enjoyed your post. It is my prayer to be the light and vessel God would have me to be.
