Psalm 2 - Jesus Wins in the End

As I look around me, I see Solomon’s view point. Vanity of Vanity, its all vanity. So many people striving for things, for importance and power. Chasing after everything under the sun, putting all their sweat and labor into things with no real meaning. Power in this world is only temporary; fame has shallow rewards and comes with a price. Money and things deteriorate and fall away. Even if you have all of these, you can't take them with you. Eventually, we will leave this earth and all we've accumulated will stay here. All we've done on this earth will soon be forgotten.

We own nothing on this earth, why do we strive so hard to accumulate things that we have no real ownership over? God created everything, the universe, the earth and everything in them. We buy land, have a deed, but don't really own it. Countries go to war to claim a land that doesn't really belong to them. Leaders set themselves up on high platforms and claim their fame. Such vanity, it all is. They rage against being ruled by a creator and build themselves up on their own to rule. They plot against the holy one to rule the earth their own way.

The Lord laughs from heaven and holds them in ridicule as He watches from Heaven. I am sure He is shaking His head in disbelief.

Psalm 2:1-4- Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord against His anointed saying, Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us. He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision.

God warns, that eventually all people around the world will be spoken to by the almighty. In the end they will all see the son descending down from Heaven and the earth will quake with one word from His voice. There will be much distress, but every knee shall bow to the King and call Him Lord one day. The nations all belong to Him they were given to Christ by the Father as His inheritance. All things (the ends of the earth) are His possessions. The pride in themselves will eventually be broken with a rod of iron.

Psalm 2:5-9 - Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: "Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion." "I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, You are My son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron: You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel."

So God tells us to be wise. And for those in positions of authority, He instructs to serve the Lord Jesus Christ with fear and to rejoice in trembling. He warns us, to stay on the side of Christ because all authority has been given to Him. We should stand before Him in awe and reverence for He is God and this earthly Kingdom belongs to Him. You are blessed to put your trust in Him and not fight against Him.

Psalm 2:10-12 - Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

Just as Solomon and the Psalmist both figured out, the only real wisdom is to put your faith in Christ and look to eternity. All else is vanity.
